About Us

CatholicCare Sydney is a leading not-for-profit agency providing care and support to people in Sydney across a wide range of social services: children and families, relationships, ageing, disability, employment, mental health and youth programs. We are the official social services agency of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Sydney.

We have been contracted to deliver the national Carer Gateway Counselling Service. The service provides up to six sessions of booked counselling over the phone, designed to help carers manage daily challenges, reduce stress and plan for the future. It is a free service operating nationally every weekday, from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm.

About the Role

You will support the Carer Counselling Service by providing phone intake and assessment of the eligibility of carers who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and low mood.

The Intake Worker, Carer Counselling Service plays an important role in engaging and containing the callers and channelling the callers to the appropriate service(s).

The Intake Worker is responsible for gathering sensitive personal information and allocating the carer to a counsellor via our client record management system (CRM).

Position Details

  • 1 Full time position: 38 hours/week
  • 1 Part-time position: 20 hours/week, Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 1.00 pm

You will have the support of an experienced counsellor throughout your shift.

About You

To be a successful candidate, you will have:

  • Completion of relevant tertiary qualifications in counselling, community services, mental health or social work.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing professional telephone intake services, including assessing immediate risks and providing crisis support to clients
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a call centre environment is essential
  • Knowledge of child protection, domestic violence best practice and suicide protocols are also required
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of electronic customer record management system(s) (CRM) or similar and Microsoft applications
  • Experience in working with individuals caring for people with a disability, dementia and/ or mental health concerns will be highly regarded
