CAWLS is a busy community legal practice with a vibrant and dedicated integrated team committed to providing excellent outcomes for our clients through law reform, legal advice and representation, non-legal wrap around support, community legal education and outreach. Many of our clients are women who have experienced or are experiencing Domestic and Family violence.

CAWLS operates two Commonwealth funded Specialist Domestic Violence Units/Health Justice Partnerships based in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. Through these units, CAWLS provides ongoing education and training for health service providers assisting them to identify and respond to disclosures of family violence.

CAWLS is seeking a self-motivated candidate with high-order advocacy and written communication and problem-solving skills, demonstrated training experience, post-admission experience, or legally-related professional experience and a strong work ethic. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about improving access to justice for women in Central Australia and the Barkly by breaking down the barriers between health and legal services.

Under the direction of the Manager – Policy & Education, the Health Justice Educator will be engaged in providing first class legal education, training and professional development, both online and in person to a range of health service providers in Central Australia and the Barkly.

Excellent ongoing training and on the job support will be provided to the successful applicant.

Total effective package includes: base salary, superannuation, leave loading, relocation assistance and salary packaging options. Annual progression within the salary scale is subject to satisfactory performance.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Health Justice Educator with Central Australian Women’s Legal Service you will be working in a small but busy and tight knit team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning, design & implementation of educational training for health service providers, including through the use of eLearning tools.
  • Identifying gaps and opportunities for CAWLS to expand training delivery.
  • Delivering quality presentations to a diverse range of participants in the Northern Territory.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of in-house training to CAWLS Board, staff & volunteers.
  • Fostering network opportunities to enhance & develop Health Justice Partnerships.
  • Designing, implementing and reporting on evaluation processes to ensure training is regularly updated and improved.
  • Maintaining an accurate records and providing reports to Management on a regular basis.

ABOUT YOU

It is crucial that you have a passion for the Health Justice Partnership model.

Please consider the following criteria carefully, and demonstrate how you address all of these qualities in your cover letter:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104 or TAE40110) or equivalent, and/or significant experience in designing and delivering adult group training.
  • Experience working with groups who experience disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of domestic and family violence as it affects women.
  • Demonstrated post-admission experience, or legally-related professional experience, in a broad range of matters, particularly in family law and Family and Domestic violence as well as generalist legal advice.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to work well under pressure and prioritise competing demands.
  • Personal commitment to reflection and self-care to build resilience and minimise the impact of vicarious trauma.
