About us

CBCA is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation made up of state branches that aim to engage the community with quality Australian literature for young Australians and administer the Book of the Year awards.

The annual awards promote books of high literary and artistic quality and are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia.

The organisation works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, and other organisations in the children’s book world that have a passion for literacy and children’s literature.

You will serve on the National Board and the Communications subcommittee and on the WA State Branch committee.

Position description

  • Represent Western Australia on the National Board of the CBCA. All Directors of not-for-profits must have knowledge of the obligations, compliance and responsibilities under ACNC governance standards.
  • Attend WA Branch committee meetings on the third Wednesday of each month
  • Liaise with the President of the Western Australia Branch.
  • Promote the CBCA where possible both locally and nationally.
  • Attend the teleconferenced monthly Board meeting and the Communications Subcommittee meetings as required - with two face-to-face meetings (including the AGM) held interstate.
  • Support the Board regarding internal and external communications.
  • Support the marketing of CBCA merchandise in collaboration with the Merchandise Subcommittee and Partnership Subcommittee.
  • Support the promotion of CBCA events including Notables, Shortlist, Book of the Year Awards and conferences in collaboration with other subcommittees.
  • Directors are not paid, and membership of the WA Branch is a basic requirement for this role. Any travel or accommodation expenses are reimbursed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with high level relationship management skills
  • Experience in developing and managing social media networks will be viewed favourably

The candidate must be prepared to:

  • commit time and drive to the role of Director on a working Board
  • contribute to the policy development, stakeholder engagement and strategic growth of the organisation
  • share in the CBCA’s vision
