Cancer Council NSW and The University of Sydney have formed a Joint Venture, The Daffodil Centre. Cancer Council NSW is Australia's largest cancer research organisation with established links to policymakers and internationally recognised researchers. The University of Sydney is Australia's first university and its Faculty of Medicine and Health and Cancer Research Network include many of the world's leading researchers across all health disciplines.

Based primarily in our Woolloomooloo office, with flexibility to work from home, the role will work with the Daffodil Centre team to co-ordinate and execute the management, reporting and dissemination of findings for key strategic projects.

About the role

The key purpose of the Research Assistant is to provide administrative and research support to ensure the smooth functioning of the Preventing Liver Cancer: Obesity and Alcohol Consumption project.

  • Provide administrative support including meeting preparation, steering committee co-ordination, minute taking, completing project-specific documentation, fulfilling reporting requirements and drafting study report and other documentation.
  • Performing literature reviews and collate publicly available data on liver cancer. This includes applying literature search criteria, extracting and summarising data and findings
  • Contribute to the evidence synthesis and drafting of any resulting publications
  • Maintain documentation on methods and outputs from literature searches, critical appraisal and evidence summaries and prepare supporting reports
  • Support the team and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of reports to the funder and key stakeholders

About You

  • A tertiary qualification in Health and a strong interest in developing a career in research
  • An understanding of research processes and the health system
  • High level attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written communication (including email) and report writing skills
  • High level interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and initiative to solve problems independently
