We are Australia’s leading cancer charity, working across every area of every cancer. Every day, we support people affected by cancer when they need it most, speak out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, empower people to reduce their cancer risk, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.
This role sits within our Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) Division, that aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one need face cancer alone. This Division assists people as they navigate the cancer trajectory, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.
CISS has identified ways to become more client centric and in doing so, reimagined the way we will work to help us be an agile and flexible workforce to give our clients a seamless experience with Cancer Council. The Division are implementing a new operating model that will change the way we approach the client experience. This new role has been introduced as part of this new initiative!
As the Training and Support Services Specialist, you will be joining the Supportive Care Services team, who provide peer and counselling support to people affected by cancer who are experiencing emotional distress, and are focused on addressing the psychosocial impacts of cancer.
Working alongside Supportive Care Specialists, this role contributes to the delivery our Supportive Care Services, and strategic direction of the Cancer Conversations training and community of practice.
The Training and Support Service Specialist also recruits, trains and manages a survivorship team of Cancer Connect peer support volunteers, to ensure competency in peer delivery of one-one telephone peer support; and facilitates training and support for Cancer Support Group Leaders and facilitators.
Reporting to the Lead, Supportive Care, based primarily in the Woolloomooloo office with a balanced approach to WFH, key responsibilities of the role will see you:
This is a role strong on engagement - engagement with a team of Cancer Connect peer support volunteers who have survived their own experience with cancer and recruiting for those volunteer positions; cross divisional engagement; volunteer engagement; and also engaging with our leaders across the State to ensure you capture the local needs in this area. That takes the right type of person who can adapt and tailor to their audience. Who can train and lead a team of volunteers with lived experiences with empathy, and also with clear direction and focus.
