Your Role

The Fundraising, Marketing and Communication (FMC) Group are responsible for ensuring reliable revenue streams are strategically planned and executed each year. The Campaigns and Community Engagement team delivers National and State Peer to Peer Campaigns,

Third Party Beneficiaries, Fundraising Events, Community Fundraising and Community Engagement across Queensland.

As the Community Development Specialist, you are responsible for strategically driving supporter acquisition and growing community engagement, raising Cancer Council Queensland’s (CCQ) profile within your geographic region to meet fundraising and community engagement objectives.

Your Contribution

  • In consultation with the broader Fundraising, Marketing and Communication Group and teams promote annual fundraising programs within your region to aid with broader strategic goals.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and members of the community to drive registrations, increase participation and inform communities of CCQ’s campaigns, services and programs.
  • Engage and grow current donors and supporters, generate new business throughout CCQ’s fundraising programs and identify and secure new fundraising opportunities not limited to campaigns.
  • Strategically scope, liaise and identify local businesses, community groups and government bodies and agencies to promote growth and awareness of CCQ programs and services with a focus on acquiring new businesses and partnership opportunities.
  • Identify media opportunities and work with CCQ’s Marketing and Communication team to implement media opportunities when required throughout the region Where required and in consultation with the Manager, Public Relations and Social Media, act as a CCQ Spokesperson on briefed topics.
  • Recruit a diverse group of volunteers including volunteer branches, event committees and volunteer fundraising groups
  • Evaluate and report on all Community Engagement initiatives undertaken in the region and at key times in the engagement pipeline such as monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Maintain key records, ensuring data integrity and reporting on all lead generation activities.
  • Work closely with the Coordinator, Community Engagement to ensure the success of all fundraising initiatives across your region.
  • Support all regional activities across Cancer Council Queensland including attending events, promoting the organisation’s mission and programs and supporting those impacted by cancer from time to time.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote CCQ’s campaigns and programs within set timeframes.
  • Manage and track overall expenditure budgets allocated for Community Engagement activities, ensuring these are achieved and adhered to

Your Leadership Contribution

CCQ has a Leadership Capability Framework which outlines the necessary capabilities of leaders for the four different leadership levels: Executive (CEO and GMs), Senior Managers, Managers, and Frontline Managers (Program Specialist, Program Lead).

  • The capabilities fall under three core capability groups: Vision and Strategy, Driving Outcomes, and Attributes and Behaviours.
  • The framework also provides an overview of leadership through Leadership Balance, Focus for Success and Decision Horizons for each leadership level.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including well-developed public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques is essential.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and work within tight timeframes.
  • Well-developed administration skills, including intermediate computer skills.
  • Qualifications in fundraising, marketing, event management, or public relations are highly desirable.
  • Self-motivated, high level of initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Relevant experience in fundraising is preferred. Alternatively, experience in relationship management, marketing, event management or public relations role is desirable.
  • An ability to manage and expand existing networks along with identifying and establishing new networks.
  • Motivational and leadership experience are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in the coordination and implementation of fundraising events, promotional launches, marketing activities or special events preferably within a community fundraising platform is required.
  • Prior work experience with volunteers is highly regarded with the ability to recruit, motivate and coordinate accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve results.
  • Proven ability to meet the set team and organisational goals.
  • Understanding of, or commitment to the charitable sector is advantageous.
  • A current driver's licence is essential.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of Cancer Council Queensland to ensure support of, and excellence in, the delivery of all Cancer Council promotions and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Position Conditions

  • Permanent, Full-time
  • Hours of work: Required to work five days per week to cover business requirements of a 7.5 hour day and 37.5 hour week but will be required to work outside these hours to attend weekend events, evening meetings or presentations on evenings or weekends.
  • Travel: Regular travel is required.
