Youth Council Member (Paid Position) - Remote

Children and Young People with Disability Australia

What is CYDA?

Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) is the national representative organisation for children and young people with disability aged 0 to 25 years. CYDA has an extensive national membership of more than 5,000 young people with disability, families and caregivers of children with disability, and advocacy and community organisations.

Our vision is that children and young people with disability are valued and living empowered lives with equality of opportunity.

Our purpose is to ensure governments, communities, and families, are empowering children and young people with disability to fully exercise their rights and aspirations.

Our strategic plan seeks to achieve our vision through:

  • Driving inclusion
  • Creating equitable life pathways and opportunities
  • Leading changes in community attitudes and aspirations
  • Supporting young people to take control
  • Calling out discrimination, abuse, and neglect

What is the Youth Council?

Our Youth Council is a paid, casual position with CYDA, which will involve a range of different activities.

  • CORE based meetings, in which Youth Council members will learn more about CYDA as an organisation, the different departments (i.e. policy and research, community impact etc.) and training opportunities.
  • Opportunity to be involved in an area of interest at CYDA, to support project delivery and gain valuable skills.
  • Co-design and lead the National Youth Disability Summit in 2023.

The role will take a commitment of approximately 6 hours per week.

At the end of the Youth Council, members of the Youth Council will have the opportunity to apply for a position on CYDA’s board, with one applicant being selected for the position. Youth Council will also be considered for other upcoming roles within CYDA.
