Craig Family Centre provides free homework and study support for local students in Years 1-10. Our primary focus is to provide academic support to local children from refugee and migrant backgrounds in a fun and safe learning environment.
We currently require more Volunteer Homework Tutors to help us provide this much needed service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, sessions are currently delivered online via Zoom.
We are looking for friendly individuals with excellent communication skills and a desire to help young people build their confidence to learn and problem-solve.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. The position may be particularly relevant to students who study teaching, education support or a related discipline or have recent subject knowledge.
Study topics often include early years' literacy, essay writing (e.g. descriptive, narrative and persuasive text), beginner and advanced mathematics (e.g. fractions and decimals, place value, ratios, multiplication and division), exam revision and science.
Tutors are required each Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm; this includes session planning and debriefing.
Training and ongoing support is provided. This is a rewarding role, working amongst a friendly and community-minded team.
