About the Job

Stronger Communities for Children (SCfC) is a community development program funded by the Australian Government to support local governance and the delivery of services for children, young people and families in the remote communities of Atitjere and Engawala. Children’s Ground’s role is primarily as a facilitating partner, sub-contracting organisations to deliver programs in line with community aspirations and SCfC outcomes. This role also involves supporting the delivery of activities, led by local community members. A key characteristic of this project is the importance of local community ownership in decision-making regarding contracting as well as design and delivery of services while reflecting the community’s vision of a strong and safe community.

This position will be responsible for overseeing and delivering this project within the context of the Children’s Ground Approach and in the context of Children’s Ground’s Central Australian operations.

Regular remote travel and outdoor work is a key component of the role.

About You

The person employed in the role will have excellent community development skills and the ability to work with all members of a community. Engagement, empowerment and fostering of leadership skills through governance capacity will be key outcomes of this position. Developing a solid understanding of the community's needs and issues, and current research about what works to improve the health, development and wellbeing of Aboriginal children, young people and families will be crucial to the success of the role.

As such, the ideal candidate must be skilled in communicating with multiple stakeholders at one time and possess an ability to broker conversation between local community leaders and various government, NFP and NGO agencies.

Further, this role will require an active person who is capable of working regularly in outdoor conditions and can cope with sitting, standing and moving around in outdoor settings, including getting in and out of motor vehicles.
