The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for the clean energy industry in Australia. We represent and work with hundreds of leading businesses operating in solar, wind, hydro, distributed energy, transmission and distribution, energy storage and clean hydrogen along with over 7,000 solar installers. We are committed to accelerating the transformation of Australia’s energy system to one that is smarter and cleaner.

Reporting to the EGM – Industry Development, the Policy Director – Energy Generation and Storage will lead the development and implementation of CEC's energy generation and utility scale storage (and related) policy and advocacy portfolio.

The role has a strong focus on state-based planning, environment and community policy and industry development matters, as well as engagement in general renewable energy investment settings.

The key objectives

  • Lead the development and implementation of CEC's large scale energy generation and storage (and related) policy and advocacy portfolio and work plan development
  • Influence policy outcomes through submissions and presentation of information to relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain and improve relationships with government decision makers and other stakeholders
  • Policy development, consultation and advocacy for large scale renewables and associated working groups
  • Promotion of best practice community engagement and benefit sharing practices both inside the membership and as part of wider industry advocacy.
  • Industry engagement (leading CEC thought leadership content and collaboration projects)
  • Deliver proactive member engagement and value, especially for relevant sponsoring and corporate members
  • Cross-functional policy and advocacy contribution and collaboration
  • Cross-functional project management and support with innovation and collaboration focus
  • Support the CEO, EGM Industry Development, and the media team in media and other communications and advocacy activities

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a relevant field
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline such as renewable energy, engineering, public policy, economics, planning, law and communications and stakeholder relations
  • Strong professional writing skills, to clearly communicate, influence and persuade
  • Outstanding policy development, conceptual and analytical skills
  • Highly effective leadership, relationship-building and representation skills
  • Strong communication and advocacy ability
  • Highly regarded: Strong understanding of Australian energy/climate policy; understanding of the renewable energy industry, particularly wind and large-scale solar projects; understanding of planning and environmental assessment and management processes for major projects
  • Strong project, time, and process management skills
  • Adaptable, innovative, and problem-solving mindset
  • People management skills (matrix management and/or direct people management)
  • Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team
