Three positions are available for psychologists at Code Black Psychology. Code Black provides comprehensive assessments of complex offending requiring innovative solutions to lessen or prevent repetitive, harmful behaviour.

Psychologists at Code Black Psychology provide clinical and forensic psychological services to offenders and victim-survivors of interpersonal violence. We require psychologists to undertake comprehensive risk and diagnostic assessments and cross-sector case planning. Code Black provides a team environment to create agile but evidence-based risk management plans.

About Code Black Psychology

Code Black Psychology takes an interdisciplinary approach to specialist assessments and care team support services in highly complex cases of interpersonal violence. Our team are qualified in psychology, social work, and law. We specialise in cases of complex psychosocial disabilities and persistent risk of harm to self and others.

Code Black Psychology is a values-based organisation where we work collaboratively with our clients by living our values of confidence, curiosity, and integrity. We work extensively in the government and private sectors in Australia and New Zealand. Through teamwork we provide complex case consultations, diagnostic reviews, care team support and coordination, behaviour support and change, bespoke training, and advice on the psychological safety of workplaces.

About the Roles

These are newly created roles due to increased demand for our services. The roles are envisaged to extend the team’s expertise in psychological and behavioural science. Your experience will help shape the role, particularly where your interests can enhance the team’s ability to provide cut-through strategies with agile interventions in cases of aggression, violence, stalking and sexual harms. Key to the role will be undertaking complex assessments and report writing, stakeholder liaison, client engagement and the ability to bring curiosity and critical thinking. You will be able to work closely with the Clinical Director Dr Lisa Warren on complex cases and to pursue research projects of interest.

Main Duties:

  • Provide psychological assessments and reports.
  • Contribute to client risk management plans as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Undertake some travel to assess consumers and meet with stakeholders.
  • Be willing to site visit clients and stakeholders in various settings, such as inpatient units and correctional facilities.

The desired candidates for the position will:

  • Enjoy working in a psychological safe environment, be able to contribute and hold a positive attitude towards others, have a sense of humour, fun and enjoyment of the work.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively and in a non-judgemental way with difficult to engage clients to uphold their dignity and opportunity for recovery.
  • Enjoy communicating and working with stakeholders and be adept at navigating the social complexity of care teams with differing views as to the pressing issues and possible solutions.

Skills and experience:

  • The greatest skill required at Code Black Psychology is a curious mind and a willingness to learn.
  • Senior psychologists are required to have a minimum of five years’ clinical experience in a mental health facility or practice, correctional service, or a forensic mental health service undertaking assessment and treatment.
  • Graduates and those with less than five years’ experience are eligible for the position of psychologist and for the registrar program.
  • Knowledge and experience in administering psychological assessments and undertaking risk assessments, including those with dual diagnosis, dual disability and marginalised cohorts will be highly regarded.
  • Experience and demonstrable strength in report writing is an inherent requirement of all psychology positions at Code Black Psychology.

Mandatory qualifications and registration:

  • APAC accredited masters or doctorate degree in psychology.
  • General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA) and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Australian Psychological Society (APS) including relevant colleges.
  • Professional indemnity insurance.
  • Ability to work effectively with navigating organisational environments and engaging with numerous stakeholders involved in providing services to complex clients.
  • This position is subject to a Police Check, Working with Children Employee Check & COVID-19 Digital Certificate
