Board Member (Voluntary)

Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA)

COSA has an opportunity for a co-opted director position, preferably with finance and corporate governance expertise. Other directors are cancer health professionals.

The Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) is Australia’s peak multidisciplinary society for health professionals working in cancer research, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care with over 800 members. COSA is recognised as an activist organisation whose views are valued in all aspects of cancer care. We are allied with, and provide high-level clinical advice to Cancer Council Australia.

In 2013 COSA became a company limited by guarantee (previously an incorporated association) and established a new Board. The Board comprises cancer health professionals who are senior COSA members. Recognising the importance of bringing external expertise to the Board, COSA co-opted two Directors in 2014 – one with finance expertise and one with legal expertise – both also having corporate governance expertise. One co-opted director, who also Chairs the COSA Audit, Risk and Finance Committee (AR&FC) is retiring following more than seven years’ service, thus creating a vacancy. COSA now seeks to appoint a new director to assist the Board fulfil its responsibilities, with the possibility this individual may also Chair the AR&FC in due course, not immediately.

The COSA Board meets five times each year, and the AR&FC also meets separately five times each year. When travel permits the Board meets in person in Sydney, however the AR&FC meetings are usually held virtually.
