The organisation

The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework.

We provide confidential counselling and support for women, men, children and young people and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault and/or sexual harassment recently or in the past and practical support for women who have been raped or have experienced childhood sexual abuse or ritual abuse, recently or many years ago.

We arrange immediate crisis appointments for women and children and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and/or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services.

Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week.

All of our programs and services are externally funded.

The position

The Program Coordinator will:

  • Work under the limited direction of the Service Director, the Coordinator will manage functions related to counselling and/or crisis service delivery and oversee staff performance related to counselling and/or crisis service delivery.
  • Provide counselling, crisis intervention, information, referral, advocacy and support services to women, men, children, young people and their non-offending supporters who have experienced sexual assault.
  • Make decisions within the bounds of delegated authority relating to counselling and/or crisis service functions in consultation with the Service Director.
  • Influence counselling and crisis services delivery using own knowledge, skills and capabilities
  • Accountable to the Service Director for counselling and/or crisis teamwork outcomes, and Community Engagement activities
  • Sets priorities and monitors workflow in the team.
  • Participate in the Emergency Contact roster, to offer support to after-hours staff
  • Manage designated programs within the CRCC
  • Is responsible for their own workload management within the role and the broader context of the organisation.
  • Reports all WHS risks, complex issues, including client complaints and Staff risks to the Service Director and Chief Executive Officer immediately.

Key selection criteria

Mandatory Requirements

  • Experience in leading a team to successful work and client outcomes
  • High-level knowledge and understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual violence, within a feminist framework.
  • Previous experience in providing counselling, information, referral, advocacy, group work and support services to people who have experienced interpersonal violence.
  • Ability or experience in presenting and delivering training to professional organisations and clients.
  • Ability or experience in forming relationships and partnerships with other professional organisations and in working with other organisations toward joint goals.
  • Proven ability to work independently within a team environment, identify priorities, meet deadlines and manage the workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team to promote and model collaborative and respectful staff and client relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy including the use of Word, email and information databases.
  • Police check clearance and ability to obtain a ‘Working with Vulnerable People’ card.
  • A current driver's license

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working in an advocacy or service delivery organisation
  • Current knowledge and experience of the ACT community services and women’s services in the ACT
  • Experience in data collection and analysis and reporting requirements

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or counselling or relevant experience are required.
