The Opportunity

As First Nations Research Assistant in the Advocacy, Research and Policy Unit, you will support the Community Restorative Centre to strengthen our expert voice in the area of justice reform, building the evidence base in order to change the life trajectories of vulnerable, disadvantaged and criminalised people in NSW.

This role will work directly with, and in support of, Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women and other women, and for this reason someone identifying both as First Nations and female is required.

Reporting to the Program Director of the unit, you will be required to conduct a variety of research tasks and work independently, taking a trauma-informed approach. You will be able to demonstrate solid planning and organisational skills, work within timeframes, possess a high level of self-motivation and attention to detail, be a creative and innovative thinker with an understanding of strengths-based approaches to growing community wellness. The successful applicant will have a strong interest in research and research translation and will be motivated to contribute to sector reform and social justice.

Your usual work hours will be 15 hours Monday to Friday between 9 am-5pm, with occasional out-of-hours work, as required.

To join us, you’ll need:

• To identify as First Nations and female
• A relevant qualification or experience working within a research environment; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of relevant education, training and/or experience
• Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews, be involved in data collection, analysis and research explanation/sharing
• Demonstrated IT skills and competencies
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders, including people with lived experience of incarceration and trauma
• Strong project, time management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
