About the role:

Our Permanency Support Program (Out of Home Care) delivers culturally appropriate high-quality care and support for children and young people.

Due to the high amount of growth within the department, we require a Carer Assessor, Recruitment and Training Coordinator to provide strong support to the increasing number of foster carers, kinship carers and other para-professional foster carers. As a Carer Assessor, you will conduct the recruitment and assessment of prospective carers and work closely with them. Furthermore, you will empower and assist carers to navigate the care system, develop and maintain their skills, liaison and negotiation with different stakeholders, and identify systemic advocacy issues.

This role is remunerated at Level 5 of the SCHADS award.

Key responsibilities:

  • Uphold the rights of Children and Out of Home Care OOHC) Standards;
  • Coordinate respite and other services to carers as identified via assessment and in line with program guidelines;
  • Nurture and grow relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Achieve optima success in service update and participation for carers;
  • Advocate and encourage shared purpose for carers;
  • Be involved in recruitment campaigns with responsive assessment and training processes;
  • Coordinate initial carer training program and additional training as required.

The ideal candidate will have a background and understanding of the Foster Care system and will also have:

  • Relevant professional qualifications (Social Work or Psychology);
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience in working with children and families from all backgrounds including CALD & ATSI;
  • Well-developed understanding of child protection including the relevant legislation and knowledge of research and theoretical frameworks;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate and implement group and individual education and support activities;
  • Experience in writing reports report utilising analytical skills;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends;
  • Drivers licence;
  • Current Working with Children’s Check and Police Check.

Please note this is a 3-year full-time contract, with a view for renewal subject to funding.
