About the corporation

The Dambimangari Native Title Determination covers 16,040 square kilometres of land and 11,896 square kilometres of sea country in the remote North Kimberley, dotted with more than 720 islands. Led by the Elders and the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation, Traditional Owners are working to continue to build a successful future for their people, drawing on the strong links between the land and the Dambimangari identity.

The Corporation uses funds from Native Title agreements, government, and business investments to provide:

About the role

Reporting to the Healthy Country Manager, the Marine Operations role involves extensive travel throughout the renowned section of the Kimberley coastline extending from the King Sound through to Prince Regent waters.

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced vessel master to skipper and manage Dambimangari Marine Operations. You will be responsible for all vessels and operations and provide logistical and administrative support to ensure compliance and safe marine operations. This position has a strong training & development focus, working with Trainee Indigenous Rangers to develop their skills via accredited training and on the job mentoring. You’ll have the chance to explore incredible islands and coastline, learn about Dambimangari culture, and support Traditional Owners to achieve their vision to access and look after country.

When the vessel is not in service you will be expected to plan and skipper extended trips, complete logistical, administrative and maintenance duties to ensure compliance, participate and assist with conservation land management works and general maintenance of DAC work shed and on country ranger base camps.

You will also have the following demonstrated abilities:

  • Experience in planning and delivering extended voyages
  • Flexibility and organisation skills
  • Passion for mentoring and training others, and motivating a team
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with Indigenous People
