Your Community Health is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Project Officer to join the dynamic Community Programs Team, for the part-time fixed term (0.6FTE to 30/06/2022) We Love Stories Project Officer position.

Your Community Health provides a comprehensive range of medical, dental and allied health services and support programs to anyone, through a combination of outreach, client-based and centre-based activities.  Our purpose is to enable health, wellbeing and dignity for all people in northern Melbourne by providing responsive and accessible services. We provide priority access to those most at risk of health inequalities and those that may face barriers to accessing traditional health services. 

About the role

Reporting to the Community Programs Manager, the We Love Stories Project Officer position is responsible for implementing the We Love Stories initiative in the Darebin area. We Love Stories is an award-winning primary prevention initiative developed and implemented by Banyule Community Health since 2017.

Your passion and commitment will see you:  

Implement this program to contribute to closing the gap in early literacy, language development and child-carer attachment for 0-5 year olds living with the experience of disadvantage in the Darebin area.

The overarching aim of We Love Stories is to have all our children start school ready to read and succeed. This position will engage and mobilise the community and service providers in early literacy and develop, apply and communicate the evidence base around the impact of early years literacy on life outcomes and evidence-based interventions as applies to the Darebin community. Through these activities we will develop trusting relationships in the community and find community champions, while creating opportunities to build oral language and attachment.

To succeed in this role you will have:  

  • Qualification/s in Health Promotion, Social Work, Community Services or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of primary prevention programs and/or projects
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and maintaining partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience, or understanding of, working in the early years setting
