Your role

The purpose of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing is to support the Minister for Seniors in achieving healthy and productive ageing for the people of NSW, consistent with the NSW whole-of-government Seniors Strategy.

What you’ll do

As part of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA), you will:

  • Advise the Minister for Seniors on: matters affecting the needs, interests and well-being of older people in NSW, and the impact of population ageing and recommend to Government changes to benefit older people in NSW, their families and community.
  • Foster discussion about issues affecting older people and options for change.
  • Monitor the impact of relevant policies, programs and trends on older people in NSW and provide advice where necessary.
  • Maintain a focus on the needs, interests and wellbeing of disadvantaged and vulnerable sections of the older population.
  • Consult with older people and other relevant stakeholders on emerging and priority issues.

You'll work as part of an Advisory Committee of up to 14 members including the Chair and Deputy-Chair. The MACA generally meets six times per year in Sydney. The Department of Communities and Justice provides secretariat support for the MACA including organising travel and related expenses to attend meetings.

What we’re looking for

Members will be selected so that the Council includes a wide range of experience, expertise, networks and interests relevant to ageing. We are particularly encouraging applications from people in rural areas, culturally and linguistically diverse and indigenous backgrounds.

Members are expected to have good communication skills, a capacity to contribute in meetings and small group discussions, an appreciation of the diversity of older people’s circumstances, an understanding of Government decision-making processes, and a capacity to analyse and make sound judgements on ageing issues.

Members are expected to have knowledge of NSW Government policies and programs on ageing.
