Drug Courts are specialist courts that deal with offenders who are dependent on drugs. They emerged as a result of growing disenchantment with the ability of traditional criminal justice approaches to provide long-term solutions to the cycle of drug use and crime. Drug Courts aim to assist drug-dependent offenders to overcome both their drug dependence and their criminal offending. This is achieved through an approach combining treatment, social services as well as the oversight of the court. The Drug Court seeks improved outcomes for participants facing full time custodial sentences. 

About the opportunity

The successful applicant will be responsible for efficiently managing, coordinating and planning the expansion of the Drug Court to Dubbo. The Senior Project Officer will be guided by and report to the Executive Officer / Registrar and Senior Judge of the Drug Court of NSW in the implementation of establishing a Drug Court in Dubbo.

About You

The successful applicant must have excellent strategic, analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to:

• Develop and maintain effective working partnerships with the key government and non-government agencies
• Quickly acquire knowledge of the issues relevant to the operation of a therapeutic court
• Deliver initiative which recognises and responds to the diverse needs of the Drug court clients and stakeholders
• Demonstrate and use high level negotiation skills

Essential requirements of the role

• This role involves occasional travel within New South Wales
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
