Lead Social Designer / Strategist

Decade of Action PTY LTD

Decade of Action (D.O.A) is a social cause agency working with businesses and brands who want to leverage their business and influence to create better outcomes for people and the planet. Our work brings together the knowledge of sociology, psychology, marketing, systems and design thinking to create a unique approach that helps our clients move from purpose intent to tangible action on social and environmental issues.

We are looking for a Lead Social Designer to join our small (and growing) team of strategists in Melbourne. D.O.A is a business built by some of the brightest thinkers in marketing, sociology, media and social design which means we bring unique opportunities as well as challenges - and together we’ll nurture yours, the teams and our clients' excitement in a constantly evolving business and sector. With far more "unknown" than "known" in our world, you’ll get to be part of building something remarkable together, something we can be proud of.

The role of Lead Social Designer is for someone who is up for exploring the unknown and finding clever, sharp and strategic ways for our clients to take action on social and environmental issues. It could be a campaign, research project, business or brand strategy, as well as a product idea or event. Your job will be to push the boundaries of ideas and action - beyond what we think is reasonable or possible (today).

We’ll need you to be a critical and curious thinker–hungry to learn, ask questions and find better ways for businesses and brands to take action on issues that matter.

We know that this role is not a ‘cookie cutter’ type position - and so our ideal person might bring experience from a range of different disciplines, whether it’s strategy, research, campaigning, project management, social or environmental issues, design, marketing or communications. Whatever it is, we need to know that you can apply this knowledge to help our clients take more action.

More specifically, the role as Lead Social Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with clients and developing sound strategic solutions with them. This will include, but won’t be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Lead the delivery of projects in line with agreed approach, schedules and budgets.

  • Lead project teams/collaborators to ensure the delivery of projects in-line with client expectations and D.O.A methods/standards.

  • Nurture and manage client relationships on a day-to-day basis to help us deliver above and beyond on our projects and also bring in/entrepreneurialism to our work by making sure we are always looking for opportunities to help our clients and the issues we seek to address.

  • Lead Social Designers bring hustle, flexibility and adaptability in a challenging (and exciting) environment.

  • Bring action every day by being highly organised and motivated, ready to roll your sleeves up and ‘get the job done’ kind of person. Whether it’s amazing strategic thinking, organising a workshop, delivering a project within budget, we’ll need you to manage projects and client relationships.

  • Seek out and deliver on opportunities for business growth with existing and new clients, including pitch/estimate development.

  • In collaboration with the Managing Partner:

    • Develop and execute strategies to improve the profile of the agency.

    • Contribute to the strategic and creative development of the agency.

A NOTE ON CULTURE:

The culture of D.O.A is crucial to our early success and is part of the foundation for how we will continue to build our offering. Everyone who joins D.O.A is responsible for building and nurturing these three values:

Treasure knowledge: We value evidence and knowledge in its diversity of forms - from peer reviewed literature, to lived experience, pulse check data and pop culture. We seek out, apply and contribute to quality evidence and insights to make sure we’re not stuck in a koolaid bubble.

Action bias: We have an action bias. Because action increases our visibility and is the only way we can accelerate change on complex issues. We chase the first tangible step to help our clients and team to move beyond concepts and ideas...into action.

Danger and extremes: We help our clients, team and collaborators to feel brave in the face of complex or complicated opportunities. Seeking out calculated dangers and extremes, because it’s on the edge of chaos that remarkable things happen.
