Position Overview:

The National Human Resource (HR) Coordinator position within Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) is responsible for contributing to the oversight and coordination of the human resource administrative functions. The Human Resources Department of DRA is responsible for managing the administration of the employee and volunteer leadership life cycle, which includes recruiting, hiring, onboarding, performance management, internal complaints and incidents, and resignation and termination. The HR department will work closely with the membership and wellbeing teams. They will be a positive vanguard for DRA Culture and Values, whilst ensuring alignment with DRA’s mission and indirectly supporting continued operations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and the National Human Resource Manager (NHRM), the National HR Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the business-as-usual administration of people and culture related issues across the organisation. This position is based out of DRA’s Adelaide Office. Some interstate travel may be required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Recruitment

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process of employees and volunteer leadership positions. This includes supporting the development of position descriptions, appropriate process management and approvals, development of advertisement material, assisting with candidate interviews as required, and completing the credentialing process.

On-boarding

  • Ensure the employee/volunteer leader on-boarding experience of new employees is followed to ensure appropriate induction and orientation. (Including offer of employment, new start packs, induction and probation).

Support to leadership group and employees

  • Provide assistance to all employees on employment related matters including leave management and interpretations of Awards, Agreements and conditions of employment.
  • In coordination with the NHRM, provide HR advice in employee relations and performance management matters.
  • Support incident management and contribute to workplace and operations investigations.
  • Oversee the records management and communications to staff and volunteers regarding any imposed restrictions in participation of operational activities.
  • Support management and decision-making processes around complex HR issues.

Data Management

  • Support the sustainment and ongoing development of an HR Information System for workforce data.
  • Maintain best practice HR records including the documentation of all HR issues.
  • Accurate and timely HR data collation and analysis for presentation to DRA executive.

Off-boarding

  • Manage the exit processes for employees and volunteers (including liaising with payroll and IT, exit interviews, and required notice periods).

Other duties

  • Contribute to the development and review of HR Policies and Procedures.
  • General administrative support functions as delegated by executive staff.
  • Model and demonstrate constructive working relationships and information exchange within the team and across the organisation.
  • Support the broader HR team as required, including coverage for leave; workload support and other project initiatives to achieve the HR strategy.
  • Other duties consistent with the position where required and/or requested by the NHRM or COO.
  • Other duties in support of DRA executive and National Administration Manager where required and/or approved by the NHRM.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, conferences and other events representing DRA in the absence of the NHRM
  • Work with management at all levels to ensure that staff are aware of and live the organisation’s Mission, Values and Strategy

This position is initially offered as a fixed term (with the option of extension), part time position (0.5 FTE).
