Founded in 2016, Disaster Relief Australia is a veteran led non-profit organisation that unites the skills and experience of military veterans with emergency services specialists to rapidly deploy disaster relief teams around Australia and the world in the wake of natural disasters.

When disaster strikes, we work hard to help the most vulnerable in need. By working with or alongside local agencies and governments, Disaster Relief Australia quickly responds to large-scale natural disasters to provide relief to communities in need. In short, we help people on their worst days.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Planning Manager reports to the Executive General Manager – Field Operations, and is responsible for leadership and management of the Planning Cell, identification of disaster events suitable for DRA response, and (dependent on the scale and location of the event) leading on, or retaining oversight of, the development of operational planning products that support DRA operations.

The Planning Manager also leads the development of Post-Activity Reviews for national-level operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Smooth running of the Planning team and support to the effective delivery of disaster recovery operations
  • Monitor events and provide notification to Executive General Manager – Field Operations / DRA Leadership via Initial Situation Reports
  • Undertake mission planning cycle and development of operational planning documents
  • Support Operational Reconnaissance Teams to make recommendations for mission launch
  • Provide support during DRA operations
  • Planning support including risk assessments, budgets, undertaking logistical and planning activities
  • Support and advise appointed Theatre and / or Mission Commanders in delivery of their role
  • Lead on production of field operations documentation
  • Support the Planning Coordinator to coordinate DRA Post-Action Review activities
  • Lead and / or support continuous improvement activities.

THE RIGHT PERSON WILL

  • Have knowledge of planning processes in either a military or civilian background
  • Be technology and general IT competent (particularly the Office 365 suite of programs)
  • Have basic finance and budgeting skills
  • Preferably have experience of DRA operations, including leadership / IMT exposure
  • Preferably have previous experience in emergency services or defence

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Australian working rights.
  • Current National Police Clearance Check or willingness to undergo such screening.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools/programs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This position is initially offered as a fixed-term, part-time position with the possibility of extension.
