About the role

As part of the Student Health and Wellbeing unit, you will act as the Senior Counsellor and be responsible for providing high quality clinical service to students, involving crisis intervention, risk assessment, counselling, and referral practices for more complex cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical counselling services including mental health assessments and interventions.
  • Triage, provide initial assessments, develop intervention plans, manage short term cases, and refer where required.
  • Provide comprehensive risk assessment and crisis intervention support to university students.
  • Refer high-risk presentations that may have a significant adverse impact on the welfare of students and employees.
  • Provision of secondary consultation, advice, and training regarding the management of complex mental health presentations.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to support student's recovery journey and identify mental health needs and implement appropriate strategies.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications in Psychology, Mental Health Social Work or Mental Health Nursing.
  • Relevant, training and/or experience including registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist or Mental Health Nurse or membership with AASW as a Social Worker.
  • Demonstrated experience in acute mental health settings and undertaking mental health assessments and development of intervention plans.
  • Skills in holistic, evidence-based therapeutic service including the management of complex risk and short-term counselling.
  • Ability to work autonomously and remain flexible with experience working in a high-demand service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
