The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Manager, Victim Services Support Operations to provide leadership of large-scale operations that deliver trauma informed and victim-centric service responses for victims of crime.

About Us

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Service Delivery Reform, Coordination and Workplace Safety Group. VSSR provides strategic leadership and advice on victims of crime issues across government, as well as direct service provision through a range of programs including the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register and the Victims Assistance Program.

About the Role

The Senior Manager, Victim Services is responsible for managing large-scale operations that deliver trauma informed and victim-centric service responses for victims of crime. The role will also contribute to the development and delivery of key service objectives and ensure a coordinated and informed operational and policy response is achieved for victims of crime across the state. The role will be instrumental in improving the lives of victims of crime and their families.

Working closely with the Director, Victim Support and the management team across related service delivery functions, the Senior Manager will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence of a range of VSSR critical frontline victim services (including a state-wide Victims of Crime Helpline which also delivers the only state-wide service providing support and referrals to male victims of family violence, Victims Register, Victims Assistance Programs, Critical Incident Response, managing VSSR's Feedback function, Prisoner Trust Fund and Prisoner Compensation Quarantine Fund).

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated strategic and operational experience in a major community or public sector organisation and complex frontline service delivery environments, as well as an understanding of the service sector and the justice system as it relates to victims of crime
  • Demonstrated values-driven leadership skills with a commitment to working collaboratively to achieve agreed organisational vision and objectives utilising evidence-based quality approaches
  • Demonstrated understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence, as well as the legislative and service system contexts in which family violence services are delivered and best practice models of responding to victims
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a high performing and multi-disciplinary team and promote a culture which encourages best practice, initiative, innovation and emphasises the value of continuous improvement
  • A demonstrated ability to organise and adapt to dynamic environments and workload, and to operate effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, including afterhours work requirements
  • Possess a sound appreciation of governance matters, probity and confidentiality requirements, particularly in the delivery of services
  • Demonstrated experience in project development cycles and the design, implementation and scaling of new initiatives in a complex operational environment
  • Professional written communication skills and an ability to develop complex policies, briefs, Cabinet submissions and drafting instructions to a high standard
  • A strong ability to assess the effectiveness of service delivery against leading services, and challenge others to deliver service excellence. Also the ability to look for long term benefits to the client
  • A strong ability to apply critical thinking when solving complex problems, and the ability to identify sources of a problem in order to develop an appropriate response
  • A strong ability to identify and manage a range of complex and often competing needs, and facilitate innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues
  • Registration or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or similar qualification is required.
