You may have heard that the Department of Communities Tasmania will be disbanded by 30 September 2022. Please be assured that the services that Communities Tasmania provides to the Tasmanian public will be ongoing and dispersed between existing Tasmanian Government agencies and a new Housing Tasmania statutory authority. Any advertised roles and contracts will be honoured in line with current Tasmanian State Service legislation.

Period of employment / Hours

Fixed term part-time day work (30.40 hours per fortnight) commencing ASAP for until approximately 27 June 2025. (approx 34 months)

Duties

Primary Purpose / Focus:

Under the supervision and guidance of the Communications and Engagement Manager, the Digital Content Support Officer will assist with the development and implementation of social media and other digital engagement strategies and campaigns for the Commissioner. They will assist in the development and publication of effective and compelling content through a wide variety of digital platforms to support the Commissioner’s advocacy and engagement needs, particularly with children, young people and decision makers, and assist with running online engagement activities.

Selection criteria includes:

  • Well-developed written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write innovative and engaging content for a variety of channels and audiences, particularly children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working across various communication channels, including social media accounts and websites, and the ability to keep up to date with emerging trends.
  • Sound content production and graphic design skills, including experience in the use of Adobe Suite, Canva, iMovie/Final Cut Pro or similar software and familiarity with WordPress and website analytics (e.g., Google Analytics) or similar platforms.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, media or other relevant discipline.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children (Vulnerable People) Registration (Employment type)

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  • 1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    • a) crimes of violence
    • b) sex related offences
    • c) serious drug offences
    • d) crimes involving dishonesty
    • e) serious traffic offences (If Driver's License is an Essential Requirement)
  • 2. Identification check
  • 3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

As a result of a risk assessment process, the Head of Agency gave consideration to where vaccination is a necessary control to protect the health and safety of workers and the community. Therefore, it’s been determined that prior to appointment to these duties, a person to is to provide evidence that they are vaccinated against COVID-19.
