Conditions of Employment:

  • Salary: $95,033 to $106,472 pro rata per annum + 10% Superannuation
  • Classification: General Stream Band 6
  • Award/Agreement: Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award
  • Location: North – Ashley Youth Detention Centre (513523a), Deloraine
  • Hours of Work: Fixed-term full time day work starting ASAP for a period of up to three years (part-time hours may be considered by negotiation)

About the Team

Children, Youth and Families (CYF) provides integrated programs that support all children, young people, and their families in Tasmania. Youth Justice Services includes Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC) which provides 24-hour residential youth justice services.

The Policy and Program Support Officer is to ensure that the programs and services which are delivered to young people in contact with the youth justice system, achieve enduring positive outcomes, meet agreed quality standards, and promote safety, health, and well-being.

About You

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, to succeed long term in this role you should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • High level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills to contribute to operational policy development, evaluation and implementation.
  • Strong project and change management skills, including planning, organising and workload prioritisation with the capacity to lead and manage complex activity.
  • High level interpersonal, collaboration and relationship building skills, with the ability to negotiate and solve complex problems.
  • High level written communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate, well written, complex documents regarding sensitive issues within a tight timeframe.
  • Well developed teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to support others through a period of change and ambiguity.

Duties Include:

  • Provide a high level of research, analysis, and contemporary advice on policy and/or project issues relevant to restorative justice and therapeutic responses for young people who are offending.
  • Develop options and put forward recommendations associated with the review of operational policies, guidelines, and manuals in order to support contemporary best practice and to provide clear client pathways in order to meet current and future business needs.
  • Maintain effective collaborative working relationships with relevant stakeholders in Children Youth and Families, other areas of Communities Tasmania, other State and Federal agencies, the private and non-government sector as required.
  • Support the implementation and management of new initiatives and service improvements that promote better outcomes for young people and encourage innovative and integrated service provision.
  • Collate complex information and produce a range of written material including discussion papers, procedures, reports, submissions, briefing notes, minutes and correspondence.

Essential Requirements:

  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (Employment type)

Desirable Requirements: A suitable tertiary qualification.
