About VictimConnect!

Our service is here to support Queensland people impacted by interpersonal violent crime, regardless of whether the incident occurred recently or historically. We focus on delivering high-quality information, guidance, warm referral pathways, specialist counselling, and case management.

Position Overview

  • Employment Term: Permanent full-time or part-time.
  • Location: Central Office (Brisbane City, QLD)
  • Remuneration: SCHADS 4 ($43.51 - $46.81 p/hr.) + 11.5% super + shift penalties - where applicable.
  • Commencement: Nov/Dec 2024
  • Induction training (paid): 3 weeks

As a Response & Connection Practitioner for VictimConnect, you will focus on providing high-quality support to Queenslanders who have been impacted by an interpersonal violent crime. Although no two days are the same, you can expect to assist inbound callers by providing crisis counselling, information, risk assessment and referral pathways for additional support, such as specialised counselling from our highly skilled Specialist Counsellors.

The role works collaboratively with Queensland Police, Victims Assist Queensland, 54 Reason and other community services. It is important that our practitioners maintain and build positive working relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate smooth referral pathways for all clients accessing our service.

Shifts 06:00-14:30, 10:00-18:00, 14:30-22:30 & 22:30-06:30.

Position Requirements

  • Completed tertiary qualification in Behavioural Science, Social Work, Human Services, or other relevant fields acceptable by DVConnect.
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in the social and community services sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people who have been impacted by violence, and an understanding of a trauma-informed approach is required.
  • Significant demonstrated ability to manage competing tasks within agreed timeframes, including planning, implementation, and coordination of practical support or case management.
  • Significant demonstrated experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
  • Confident and effective interpersonal, communication and consultation skills.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of intersectional feminist practice and other relevant practice frameworks used to respond to victims of violent crime.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding (or willingness to acquire) of the Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation and Queensland criminal justice legislation, including victim of crime and child protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners.
  • Demonstrated good cultural responsiveness and commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly competent IT and telephone skills.
  • Paid Blue Card and a satisfactory National Police Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing employment.
  • Right to work in Australia.
