  • Part Time – 2 rosters available. 12 shifts rotating over 4 weeks (96 hours) or 14 shifts rotating over 4 weeks (112 hours)

THE ORGANISATION

Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) is a non-government, not-for-profit specialist domestic and family violence service that seeks to reduce violence and abuse in relationships. DVCS provides crisis and long-term support services to help break the domestic and family violence cycle. DVCS is here to support people, both during and after crisis situations as well as support programs for those who use violence, with the aim of bringing about change.

Duties

Service Provision: In a co-operative team environment and in line with DVCS Vision and Objectives and in accordance with Policies and Procedures of the Service the Crisis Intervention Team Member will primarily:

  • Attend Domestic Violence crisis calls in accordance with DVCS - Policy Guidelines and provide crisis intervention services as required, which may include:
    • Assessment of safety issues
    • Personal and immediate practical support, referral and advocacy
    • Information such as legal options, accommodation, income support, counselling services, health services and children's safety
  • Respond to crisis telephone calls - provide crisis counselling, personal support, information and referral on matters related to Domestic Violence including legal, accommodation, income support, counselling services, health services and children's issues
  • Provide follow-up and advocacy services to people affected by domestic violence as required
  • Provide individual support and information to clients through legal processes including paralegal support as required
  • Liaise and network with relevant government and community agencies as required including Police, Legal Aid, Courts and refuges
  • Develop case plans with clients in accordance with DVCS case management (support planning) approaches and implement decisions
  • Record relevant data during each shift
  • Maintain accurate client records and prepare reports as required

Other Duties

  • Promote the public profile of DVCS and the needs of those impacted by domestic violence through education, training, and the facilitation of workshops as required
  • Undertake administration / operation tasks as requested by the Team Leader or Director, Community Services
  • Debrief other workers as required in accordance with DVCS processes
  • Provide training and support to new staff as required
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required
  • Other duties as directed

All applicants must meet and address the following Selection Criteria in writing

  • Tertiary or other relevant training in social / human services or other areas of relevance; demonstrated experience in direct client case management or crisis intervention or pursuing relevant qualifications currently
  • Knowledge and demonstrated practical application of a highly developed understanding of domestic, family violence and its impacts on individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated experience in working in crisis and referral work, including crisis telephone work
  • Highly developed understanding of safety planning and the ability to risk asses to inform decision making in a crisis response
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to problem solve and ensure positive outcomes for clients
  • Availability to work on a rotating shift roster (8 hours shifts) including weekends, evenings and on-call. If there are particular days or times you are unavailable to work, please state. Our Shift Times are, you must be available to work the entire 8 hours of a shift:
    • S1: 8am – 4pm
    • CI4: 9am – 5pm
    • CI3: 10am – 6pm
    • CI5: 12pm – 8pm
    • S2: 3:30pm – 11:30pm
    • On-Call: 11pm – 8am
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • Current driver’s licence

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the SCHCADS Award level 5.1 to 6.3 plus super and salary packaging commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.
