The Impact21 Employment Program is a one-of- a-kind job readiness program for adults with Down syndrome or intellectual disability. Tailored for those aged 22 and up, the 24-month program is designed to equip students with the tools they need to forge their own unique career pathways.

Through Impact21 students will obtain a custom role in a national company, earning award wage. The program promotes social and civic inclusion, encourages greater independence, and grows students’ work skills.

Reporting directly to the Impact21 Manager, the Lead Employment program will provide the learning and teaching oversight to the education phase of the program. This role works collaboratively across the Impact21 projects to ensure delivery of the program, curriculum work in partnership with education specialists to put the program online and adapt for school leavers.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Coordinate educational artefacts and activities for conversion to online modules and use in future programs
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, education partner and Lead, Digitisation and Schools Program, to prepare educational materials in physical and digital formats
  • Deliver a curriculum consistent with an adult learning/work readiness environment and practice
  • Oversee student discovery and assessment
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of personal development plans for students, student development reports, including assessments and recommendations.
  • Provide guidance to three permanent teaching staff, subject matter experts and casual staff to support positive learning outcomes
  • Coordinate allied health professionals, subject matter experts and casual teaching staff
  • Lead critical reflection and inquiry to improve students’ learning and curriculum to support this
  • Participate in activities such as parent meetings; Inclusion Foundation staff meetings; key-stakeholder meetings; and Impact21 team meetings
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to OH&S policy and procedures
  • Work to strict policies and procedures as governed by the Impact21 program and national teaching standards in Australia
  • Undertaking other duties, which are appropriate to the level of the position, as directed by the Impact21 Manager.

The ideal person for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree level or higher in Educational Design, Communications or Education
  • Experience with curriculum design and documentation
  • Strong organisational abilities, coordination and project management skills
  • Highly developed relationship building capabilities and ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders
  • A demonstrated commitment to tailored education and an understanding of intellectual disability and the implications for teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of initiatives in student learning, the development of Individual Educational Plans and the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with diverse abilities and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning data using a variety of assessment tools and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level of interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with participants and their support networks, and other staff.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (Employee).

Desirable:

  • Experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities with high expectations of achieving independence and sustainable employment goals
  • Familiarity with alternative assessment methods such as the Star assessment tool
