The Impact21 Employment Program is a one-of- a-kind job readiness program for adults with Down syndrome or intellectual disability. Tailored for those aged 22 and up, the 24-month program is designed to equip students with the tools they need to forge their own unique career pathways.

Through Impact21 students will obtain a custom role in a national company, earning award wage. The program promotes social and civic inclusion, encourages greater independence, and grows students’ work skills.

Reporting directly to the Lead, Employment Program, the Learning Facilitator will take primary responsibility for educating and preparing Impact21 participants for meaningful employment. This will specifically involve supporting students in the development of their employability skills by building their communication skills and familiarity with common workplace terminology/language, upskilling them in job related literacy, numeracy, and technology, and role modelling appropriate workplace behaviours and problem-solving scenarios and strategies.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Delivering a curriculum consistent with an adult learning/work readiness environment and practice
  • Leading student discovery and assessment
  • Facilitating the development and maintenance of personal development plans for students
  • Upskilling students in work related literacy, numeracy, and technology
  • Preparing students for, and debriefing students on employer engagement visits
  • Modelling appropriate workplace behaviours, problem-solving scenarios, and strategies
  • Preparing student development reports, including assessments and recommendations.
  • Providing guidance to Learning Support staff, subject matter experts and casual staff to support positive learning outcomes
  • Addressing immediate behaviour issues relating to specific students within a classroom setting
  • Assisting with coordination and planning of student routines as part of a committed team
  • Engaging in critical reflection and inquiry to improve students’ learning
  • Participating in activities such as parent meetings; Inclusion Foundation staff meetings; key-stakeholder meetings; and Impact21 team meetings
  • Maintaining a safe environment and adhere to OH&S policy and procedures
  • Working to strict policies and procedures as governed by the Impact21 program and national teaching standards in Australia
  • Undertaking other duties, which are appropriate to the level of the position, as directed by the Lead, Employment Program.

The ideal person for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A demonstrated commitment to tailored education and an understanding of intellectual disability and the implications for teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of initiatives in student learning, the development of Individual Educational Plans and the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with diverse abilities and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning data using a variety of assessment tools and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level of interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with participants and their support networks, and other staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise, and teaching capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the social and personal development of students and an understanding of positive behaviour support.
  • Formal teaching qualifications that are relevant, accredited and recognised in Victoria including Bachelor of Education; Disability Studies in Education; Special Education Certification; registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (Employee).
