The Youth Mental Health Services includes the Integrated Therapeutic Communities (ITC) team, Youth Outreach Recovery Support (YORS) team and the MHC Intake team. The services are designed to support young people aged 16-25 recovering from significant mental health conditions across the Eastern, Northern, Inner East and South Eastern Melbourne catchments.

About the Youth Mental Health Services Manager role

We are seeking a full-time Manager for a short-term backfill until 10 August to provide leadership and clinical support/governance to all three services (ITC, YORS & MHC Intake). This role will assist young people to achieve their individual goals for recovery by providing leadership that promotes services that are youth orientated, developmentally appropriate, trauma informed, and stimulating and diverse in nature.
With demonstrated experience leading teams, you will use your people management skills, strategic thinking and collaboration with stakeholders to empower the team to deliver results, and build the team and community capacity.

What you'll be doing

As the Manager, no day will be the same where you develop and lead a therapeutic community environment that is innovative, promotes and develops the strengths of young people, and that is connected and responsive to youth specific services in the region. You will:

  • leading, mentoring, supporting, and motivating the team with the necessary support, supervision, training, and guidance to ensure we are providing a therapeutic community environment
  • undertake and implement programming and coordinate decisions across sites and programs, inclusive of staffing, senior supervision, and support the management of intake, assessment, review, and service transition processes
  • proactively mitigate and manage all kinds of risks: operational, clinical, reputational, business continuity and WH&S.
  • ensuring services are of high quality and comply with the reporting requirements, as well as other legislative and compliance requirements.

This is a hybrid role, working from home and across Box Hill South and Wantirna South sites.

Who you'll be working with

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will oversee the 3 service teams which includes Intake, a YORS Team Leader and 6 Youth & Family workers, 2 Senior ITC Workers and 7 ITC Workers, a casual pool of staff and an administrator.

The teams are based across the Box Hill South site and Wantirna South site and provide outreach support to the surrounding community settings.

Who we are looking for

Along with your passion for helping others, you will:

  • be qualified in psychology, social work, nursing, education, or another health-related discipline
  • have a demonstrated expertise and understanding in working with youth mental health, the impacts of trauma, homelessness, early school departure and family conflict
  • experience in people management and ability to provide leadership and make decisions in a high-pressure environment
  • have experience delivering high-quality person-centred support and assistance to individuals that embraces their personal goals and choices, and respects cultural diversity,
  • be an effective communicator and natural relationship builder,
  • have a demonstrated ability to complete administrative tasks to the required standard and detail to meet quality and reporting requirements.
