Ethnic Disability Advocacy Centre (EDAC) is a community-based agency that provides state-wide advocacy services to people with disability from ethno-culturally and linguistically diverse (ELD) backgrounds, their families and carers. EDAC also works with other agencies to raise awareness of issues impacting on people with disability from ELD and Aboriginal backgrounds.
EDAC is seeking a part-time Project Officer to facilitate the design and implementation plan of an Independent Support Person (ISP) programme for people with intellectual or cognitive disability who come into contact with the WA criminal justice system. The population cohort for the pilot ISP Programme are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with intellectual or cognitive disability. The ISP programme builds on an Aboriginal Disability Justice project undertaken by EDAC in 2019.
The Independent Support Person (ISP) project is responsible for developing the framework of and a business case for a WA Independent Support Person Pilot Programme. The proposed WA ISP model is intended to assist those residents living with cognitive and/or intellectual impairments as they engage with the WA Police Force.
