ABOUT US

The Electric Vehicle Council is the national body representing the electric vehicle industry in Australia. Our mission is to accelerate the electrification of transport for a sustainable and prosperous Australia. Our primary role is to develop and advocate effective policy. Our members are companies that build, power, and support electric vehicles.

The Electric Vehicle Council is a not-for-profit association based in Sydney, with staff in Melbourne and Brisbane, operating nationally.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The key objectives for this role:

  • Undertake and/or lead policy research using a range of research methods, and report findings demonstrating rigorous analysis of relevant political, economic, social, technical, legal and environmental issues and trends.
  • Research, analyse and develop sound policy submissions and advice to government and industry to enable informed decision making on electric vehicles and related matters.
  • Proactively identify and analyse policy options and emerging issues related to the core business and objectives of the Electric Vehicle Council, while monitoring best practices and trends in policy development, implementation and evaluation internationally.
  • Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of discussion papers, briefs and project plans to contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, and stakeholder consultations to support engagement as well as policy development and implementation.
  • Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to contribute to the achievement of policy outcome.
  • Draft clear, concise, high-quality documents designed to support clear and consistent communication about policy matters.
  • Work in close collaboration with all staff of the Electric Vehicle Council, and our members, to contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and decision making.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • High level analytic, conceptual and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead on a range of policy development activities, with the capacity to manage timeframes and competing demands and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to process and adapt information quickly to ensure clear policy and advice is delivered to government and other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with (or ability to develop knowledge of) electric vehicle technology and/or policy, both internationally and in the Australian context.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain familiarity with extensive range of research, policy and government initiatives on a specific policy issue; ideally electric vehicles.
  • While specific qualifications are not essential, a degree in law, policy, economics, social sciences, engineering or related disciplines is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including management of stakeholders and resources, as well as reporting and evaluation of policy outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
  • A strong interest in the Council’s mission to accelerate the shift to sustainable transport.

Additional criteria to apply for Senior Policy Officer:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage support staff, budgets and contractual obligations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level strategic advice to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, negotiate and influence to achieve organisational goals.
  • Detailed knowledge (or ability to quickly develop knowledge) of electric vehicle technology and/or policy, both internationally and in the Australian context.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in developing and/or managing a public policy agenda.
  • Forensic attention to detail when managing multiple tasks and competing demands.

WORKING TOGETHER

Salary range:

  • Policy Officer: $60,000-$80,000 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
  • Senior Policy Officer: $80,000-$100,000 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

The EVC has staff based in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, however, this role is available to candidates across Australia with remote working available. This role may suit candidates seeking full-time or part-time work. We are keen to provide flexible working arrangements, especially for those with caring responsibilities.
