Deliver culturally safe and trauma informed counselling. We support Aboriginal women who have been impacted by family violence. Our support extends to predominantly working indirect with the rest of the family (if applicable) through the women. Our activity focuses on empowerment by using a strength base approach to promote decision making, self awareness. To work with Aboriginal women to empower them to manage their situation and to provide the tools to take charge of their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Contribute to EMH team morale and encourage a positive team building approach to service delivery.
  • Perform all duties in a professional, diligent and encompassing manner to achieve the best outcomes.

Service Delivery

  • Work in a culturally safe, holistic, strengths-base, client-centred and trauma informed.
  • Using a trauma informed approach to ensure recovery includes safety, empowerment, and connection.
  • Provide specialist therapeutic interventions using trauma informed counselling in one or more of the following supports areas via phone, telehealth or in person:
    • One on one counselling sessions
    • Family counselling sessions
    • Group facilitation session
  • Identify needs and refer to appropriate services. Undertake initial assessment to determine clients immediate and medium-term needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor case plans for clients to inform and measure ongoing counselling and/or crisis interventions.
  • Work with the Team Leaders to allocate appropriate clients.
  • Where appropriate, apply a collaborative approach, involving internal and external stakeholders, in order to ensure that the care plan and interventions are appropriate to client needs.
  • Ensure high quality risk assessments are completed and inform the development of thorough safety plans for Aboriginal women and children experiencing family violence.
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments and safety planning for high-risk clients
  • Participate in the development of safety plans in collaboration with clients and, where necessary, other service providers. Human Resources

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in psychology/social work/ counselling.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working in a range of creative ways and settings with clients who have challenging, and complex needs is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and facilitate therapeutic group.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people within a family violence or similar field.
  • Demonstrated capability for reflection and self-care.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of mental health and trauma and the challenges and impact these have for people affected by them.
  • Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team.
