Job Summary

Great community service opportunity to remotely lead the reputable AOD program servicing the Hunter Valley.

Our Client Mercy Services provides a variety of services across community and residential settings, in various parts of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Lower Hunter region of NSW. The McAuley Outreach Service offers Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) counselling for parents with young children under the age of 12 years, to help address addiction, any related health issues, and helping their Clients to develop a stable lifestyle for the future.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Manager who is passionate about providing exceptional services to the community, to provide strategic leadership and overall management of McAuley Outreach Service (MOS) including the Holyoake women’s program, McAuley Community Houses including Brighton House and Bronte House.

Offering great work/life balance, we envisage the role will successfully manage a well-established field team by an experienced & knowledgeable AOD Manager, either based in Newcastle or if preferred, working remotely but would need to be prepared to travel to Tighes Hill, located in Newcastle, fortnightly for face-to-face client and team meetings. Depending on the location of the successful candidate, if required, flights and accommodation will be provided.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably managing a not-for-profit service and/or housing program
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling, community services, social work, or similar
  • Proven experience leading and supervising a team within the community service sector
  • Strong knowledge of AOD and parenting issues; and the AOD, family services and related service sectors
  • Ability to manage numerous concurrent issues and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and build connections with a broad range of service providers including but not limited to Hunter New England Health, rehabilitation providers in the region, Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (NADA) and the Local Drug Action Team (LDAT)
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of quality management, including policy and procedures within a human services environment
  • Experience leading, developing and supervising staff, conducting case reviews and improving practice
  • Exceptional ability to maintain professionalism and integrity (including clear and strong professional boundaries)
  • Professionalism and alignment with the values and ethos of Mercy Services
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small dynamic and diverse team
  • Sound experience in the use of databases and systems
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence (with no restrictions) with travel to clients across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions required
  • Current and clear NSW Working with Children, National Criminal & NDIS Worker Screening checks and current registration and membership with relevant associations and industry bodies
