  • Clerk Grade: 7/8. Base salary $99,431 to $110,064 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the Team   

The Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who are unable to on their own, or with support. These include decisions such as where a person might live, their medical and dental treatment, health care, and other services. It also provides information and support to private and enduring guardians, service providers and the wider community. Practice and Strategy teams provide systemic advocacy, stakeholder engagement and support both customers and employees in their practice of guardianship. 

About the Role 

The Stakeholder Engagement team is responsible for providing direct information and support to represented people and their families, private and enduring guardians, and the broader community. The team designs, delivers and evaluates information provision, education and consultation programs targeted to a range of stakeholders. Team members are also responsible for developing and maintaining collaborative networks across NSW Trustee & Guardian divisions, State and Commonwealth Government and other peak bodies to support the effective advocacy and delivery of customer services. Team members hold high-level communication skills, allowing them to manage and respond effectively to sensitive, contentious and complex issues, including complaints.

About You

  • Are confident in writing formal correspondence to stakeholders, such as complaint responses, and prepare accurate information for various publications, factsheets and newsletters 
  • Are able to work autonomously to manage the competing demands and priorities of the division 
  • Are a great team player, working closely with your peers to provide up-to-date information and to focus on continuous quality improvement in all areas of Guardianship practice 
  • Have an excellent eye for detail and take pride in your ability to gather, analyse and condense complex information 
  • Can interpret and apply various pieces of legislation to a range of situations, developing and implementing effective resolution strategies, including in complex, vexatious and litigious contexts 
  • Have analytical skills to identify practice and systemic issues, and provide high-level advice and reports on topical issues relevant to the Public Guardian

Essential Requirements    

  • Degree in social or behavioural sciences, legal or communication or related discipline, or equivalent experience. 
  • Proven fieldwork experience in an area of disability and or ageing, including individual and systemic advocacy skills. 
  • Excellent knowledge of disability issues and a comprehensive understanding and commitment to the Principles of the Guardianship Act. 
  • Available to travel throughout NSW to deliver training.
