Policy Officer

Families Australia

about us

Families Australia is an independent national, peak, not-for-profit member-based organisation that advises the Commonwealth Government on family policy issues, especially on ways to increase the engagement of families who experience vulnerability.

Our vision is that Australian families, in all their diversity, enjoy the greatest possible wellbeing. To achieve this, we foster a national public policy environment in which family-related issues prosper.

We aim to inform and influence family policy at the highest government levels, work closely with members in developing policy, strongly advocate for the diversity and value of families, and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations.

the role

We are seeking a dedicated Policy Officer committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and families. A person who will take an active role in our work to ensure Australian families, in all their diversity, enjoy the greatest possible wellbeing.

If you are committed to working in a purpose driven organisation, are interested in engaging with stakeholders and national bodies to inform and sharpen your advice, and you want to influence the national debate, then come join us!

responsibilities

Working in a small team reporting to the CEO, the Families Australia Policy Officer leads and coordinates the development and implementation of a range of policy initiatives relevant to families, children and young people.

This includes supporting the National Coalition on Child Safety and Wellbeing (comprising non-government and research organisations including peak bodies, out‑of‑home care, child and family support, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations) who are committed to advancing the national campaign on child safety and wellbeing in Australia.

Families Australia has a strong commitment to flexible work. We expect the part-time role (0.6 FTE) will work over four days per week, based in Canberra. However, an alternative spread of hours and/or a non-Canberra work location could be considered for the right applicant.

Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are strongly encouraged. If you are thinking about applying, reach out for a yarn ahead of the closing date.
