Position Summary

The purpose of this role is to support The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA)’s work in building partnerships and solidarity between multicultural and First Nations people and their organisations. This role will focus on FECCA’s existing collaboration with the Uluru Dialogue1 on activities to build awareness and support for the Uluru Statement From the Heart among Australia’s multicultural communities.

This role will also help to identify and develop other partnerships and opportunities to strengthen FECCA’s work alongside and in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia.

This role sits in FECCA’s Policy Team and reports to the Director of Policy and Advocacy. The successful candidate will join a small but mighty team of people who love working together and prioritise supporting each other to achieve our professional and personal goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

This role requires significant engagement with members, formal and informal partners, and working in conjunction with them to develop and implement activities that lead to multicultural communities being connected to First Nations communities and building long lasting relationships.

Key duties include:

• Supporting the collaboration between FECCA and the Uluru Dialogue team, including:
• Working with the Uluru Dialogue and Youth Dialogue staff to strengthen existing activities such as webinars;
• Engaging with FECCA members and other stakeholders to identify potential opportunities and activities to strengthen their engagement with First Nations organisations and communities;
• Working with FECCA members and other stakeholders to develop and implement activities in their communities to grow support for the Uluru Statement;
• Organising a range of activities in support of the Uluru Statement, including at the FECCA 2022 Conference
• Developing other opportunities and projects, including:
• Identifying and facilitating potential partnerships between FECCA and/or FECCA members and First Nations organisations
• Highlighting opportunities in FECCA’s existing work to amplify the priorities and policy asks of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations;
• Supporting other work in FECCA to strengthen the conversation between multicultural and First Nations people in Australia i.e. a relevant edition of FECCA’s Australian Mosaic Magazine
• Leading project development, implementation, and monitoring
• Contributing to organisational growth by supporting the development of grant applications and other similar opportunities

FECCA is a small and flexible organisation. The successful candidate will be required to work on a range of cross-organisational projects, on an ad hoc basis, in collaboration with colleagues and external stakeholders to meet FECCA’s overall goals.

Selection Criteria

You must be able to meet at least five of the criteria below:

• Good understanding of and commitment to the Uluru Statement from the Heart
• Demonstrated experience building relationships and working in partnership with diverse groups
• Demonstrated experience in project implementation, monitoring and evaluation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to adapt to the needs of a range of audiences, including people from multicultural backgrounds
• Good analytical skills and demonstrated ability to engage with research evidence to produce high-quality reports and advocacy materials
• Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment, highly self-motivated, self-driven and flexible
• Ability to work professionally as part of a team in a positive and supportive manner
• A relevant tertiary qualification
• Demonstrated understanding of government processes, working with NGOs, and the advocacy and policy development process
