Virtual Community Development Coordinator - Lismore / Far North Coast

About the Role:

This role will see you working virtually and engaging people with disability and their families, NDIS stakeholder organisations and broader community organisations to help build the capacity of the local community to remove barriers to inclusion; supporting individuals to be self-determining, resourceful, and resilient and service providers to be more flexible, responsive and person centred.

Key functions of the role include but not limited to the following:

  • Implement and lead comprehensive multi-faceted community engagement and capacity building initiatives which promote diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness together with the engagement and participation of people living with disability who are from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), LGBTI and/or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Administrate, coordinate, and attend project meetings including taking detailed minutes and distributing and following up action items.
  • Actively participate in special projects, initiatives, or programs
  • Participate in planning committees to effectively roll out strategic community development and capacity building plans.
  • Identify community needs, service gaps and barriers to access through liaising and consulting with people with disabilities and their families, disability service providers and community organisations.
  • Receive and manage communications including phone calls, emails and social media enquiries from participants, families, and the community.
  • Assist the Local Area Coordination Services in organising and planning community events, information sessions, presentations, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Analyse and collate relevant data and utilise for marketing the LAC service and in alignment with NDIA reporting requirements.
  • Assist people deemed by the NDIS as not eligible for Scheme, their families, and carers with information linkages and supports to utilise natural supports and connect with their community.
  • Administer and monitor our LAC social Media avenues, alongside the social media and marketing team.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in a range of engagement and capacity building activities including workshops, information sessions, presentations, expos, festivals, meetings etc.

More about You:

You must have proven experience working with community groups and possess a good understanding of community capacity building models.

The ideal candidate will be enthused and motivated to join the organisation and bring this new role to life. Exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills are a must together with a high level of computer literacy.

You will also possess the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in disability, community services, social sciences, humanities or similar, or lived experience with disability.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • On point IT skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, dependent on work requirements.
  • Current drivers’ licence.
  • Highly experienced in leading Social Media engagement projects.
