Work with a diverse team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to improve eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. About the position

Reporting to the Advocacy and Engagement Manager, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic community engagement officer to join the Indigenous Australia Program. To do this role effectively:

  • Well-developed listening, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated advocacy/influencing skills and interpersonal skills with people at all levels
  • Relationship management and internal/external stakeholder engagement skills
  • Project management and organisational skills and ability to be flexible with changing priorities
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages

The Senior Community Engagement Officer role supports the development and implementation of communications and public affairs projects, manages stakeholder relationships both internally and externally and supports the coordination of stories for local and national media coverage in consultation with your manager and the Global Communications Team. This role will coordinate and prepare the IAP contribution to board reports, donor reporting, annual reports and support global internal communications, in consultation with the IAP Programs Team.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a community engagement role working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating events and managing stakeholder engagement.
  • High level experience writing in various formats for internal and external audiences.
  • Understanding, developing and communicating policy and procedures.
  • Previous experience within a not-for-profit organisation. (Desirable)
  • Previous experience in the area of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. (Desirable)
  • Tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline (e.g. communications, marketing, business). (Desirable)
