ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Regional Coordinator will assist the Regional Fire Practitioners working with the Firesticks core team in supporting Indigenous communities to conduct Indigenous led cultural fire management on Country.

Facilitate and support engagement with agencies and other organisations engaged in fire management to support the resourcing and increase of cultural fire on-country.

Responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of program management to support Regional Fire Practitioners working with communities to ensure cultural continuance and practice of cultural fire management on country in compliance with Indigenous community protocol, Firesticks and other relevant policies and procedures, including risk management and WHS.

Assist operational team in the development of project management plans and reporting, facilitating contracts and supporting delivery of multiple investment streams. You will be responsible for developing regional budgets working with the regional fire practitioner and communities. You will develop project planning documents that feed into an annual business plan to support program delivery for your region. Your work will include building resources in the region to support local communities to implement cultural fire on Country.

Support Firesticks to deliver cultural fire mentoring and training programs on-country to build a network of professional cultural fire practitioners

ABOUT YOU

The best fit for this role is somebody who has:

  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience delivering outcomes across multiple projects 2 years+
  • Strong proposal writing & communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience of minimum of 12mths management of a small team (Under 5 people)
  • Strong Time-Management & Organisational Skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver outputs within specified timeframes

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Regional Coordinator will be responsible for all internal and external communications

Cultural Knowledge and compliance

  • Support local Aboriginal communities in increasing capacity to utilise cultural fire management practices
  • Assist local Aboriginal communities to implement programs, projects or initiatives that promote landscape and cultural fire management across all land tenures.
  • Ensure that work is Indigenous led, including working across different land tenures and with diverse stakeholders and valuing the importance of communicating with different audiences.
  • Contribute to the production of communications materials and educational resources that supports Firesticks’ initiatives.
  • Facilitate as appropriate Intellectual property agreements and contracts as required by Aboriginal communities and individuals

Delivery

  • Work with Regional Fire Practitioner and Program Manager to support operational staff to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new initiatives
  • Work with program and project teams for optimal return-on-investment, coordinate and support project deliverables
  • Support operational teams to coordinate and run events and workshops
  • Identifying opportunities for continual improvement
  • Ensuring relevant standards, process and regulations are upheld

Program Risk Management

  • Work with FAIC team to identify risks and opportunities across multiple programs and projects within the region
  • Manage records for workshops and events such as JSA, Attendance records, Consents, Media agreements, Volunteer registration forms etc.

Finance

  • Develop budgets and track funds allocation and expenditure working with relevant staff
  • Develop budgets to support engagement and program delivery
  • Tracking and reporting on expenditure of program delivery budgets
  • Undertake monthly reconciliation of program delivery expenditure

WHS & Equipment

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with WHS requirements under the WHS Act
  • Ensure practices are compliant with WHS requirements under the WHS Act
  • Ensure protocols are in place, and follow those protocols, in managing risks, hazards, incidents or illness
  • Ability to operate a 4WD
  • Ability to maintain equipment and maintenance register

Fire Management

  • Support the Firesticks fire practitioner and Indigenous community knowledge holders and practitioners to practice fire management on country to achieve the desired community aspirations and project outcomes
  • Support Indigenous communities to conduct Indigenous led cultural fire management on country, provide support to the Firesticks community and grow a network of professional cultural fire practitioners, mentors and trainers
  • Support planning and implementation of cultural continuance and practice of cultural fire management on country in compliance with Indigenous community protocol, Firesticks and other relevant policies and procedures, including risk management, fire plans and permits and WHS.

Education, Mentoring and Training

  • Engage with the wider Firesticks community to build training and mentorship opportunities
  • Facilitate and support engagement with agencies and other organisations engaged in fire management to support the resourcing and increase of cultural fire on-country
  • Represent Firesticks, its programs and values appropriately to a variety of stakeholders and partners
  • Support Firesticks to deliver cultural fire mentoring, training and certification programs on-country and build a network of professional cultural fire practitioners

Reporting

  • Provide regular IMPACT reporting using a variety of multimedia and scientific tools

TIME COMMITMENT

This is a full-time employment contract (5 days/per week) on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2024, ideally commencing ASAP. To successfully fulfil their job requirements, the successful candidate will be sometimes required to travel within Australia and work outside normal work hours.

LOCATION

This is a remote based opportunity, we will consider applicants who are located in NSW.
