Fitzroy Lions Soccer Club (FLSC) is a community-focused soccer club that uses sport as a vehicle for powerful social change and unites young people of all backgrounds through the 'world game'. We are about more than just football – our ethos is to bring the community together and show that our diversity is our strength.
We provide a supportive, positive environment for players to discover soccer, build their confidence and social connections, and develop important life skills.
One of our core missions is to remove any barriers to accessing organised sport and ensure all young people have the opportunities they need to thrive. That's why FLSC is completely free to play – the only registered soccer club in Australia to offer this. No club fees, no registration fees, and all kit is provided free of charge.
Alongside our junior teams, we also run community outreach and after-school programs.
We are seeking enthusiastic youth mentors and team managers to ensure Fitzroy Lions can continue to meet growing demand and serve the community.
We understand that people are busy and may not be able to commit to a 'full time' team role. All we ask in terms of continuity is that you are able to attend at least one session per month.
As a youth mentor/team manager, you’ll support our coach/s to run training and game days, but with an increased focus on player wellbeing and enjoyment – providing encouragement and ensuring everyone feels comfortable with the activities. These roles are about building relationships with the players and families, helping to plan and manage logistics (eg transport) and ensuring players have what they need to succeed and have fun.
No previous soccer experience required.
We train on Wednesday evenings in Clifton Hill (6-7.30pm) and play on Sunday mornings in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
All volunteers require a current working with children check.
