ABOUT FITZROY LEGAL SERVICE

Fitzroy Legal Service (FLS) is a community-based organisation, dedicated to assisting the most marginalised members of the community with legal information, advice and representation, as well as advocating for law reform and conducting public interest litigation.

We work towards a fairer and more just Victorian community, one in which the legal and broader social system supports equality and justice. Our services are offered across the Cities of Darebin and Yarra, and the inner north of Melbourne.

FLS has built a reputation as a champion for justice, providing access and a voice to those often silenced, fighting the fights that others either can’t or won’t. In 2022, the services FLS provide are more important than ever before.

While FLS is fortunate to have a reliable source of income through our strong relationships with the local, state and federal government and other key funders, there is a growing need for FLS to have access to a pool of non-committed funds. These funds are needed for critical services and will maintain FLS’ ability to deliver strong and independent advocacy.

This year FLS celebrates our 50th anniversary, making us one of the oldest community legal centres in Australia. As an iconic organic organisation with a strong supporter base, FLS is well placed to diversify revenue away from a high reliance on government with greater annual contributions from fundraising and philanthropy.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Fundraising Manager is a newly created position, reporting directly to the CEO, and will be responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of a fundraising strategy at FLS. The position will sit within the Leadership Team of the organisation.

The Fundraising Manager will coordinate a range of activities that will enable FLS to diversify its income sources and to build untagged funding to meet its fundraising goals.

They will develop relationships and partnerships to support the organisation’s fundraising outcomes, and will seek to incorporate the voices of people with lived experience into our fundraising efforts and materials.

The Fundraising Manager will also have a key role in organisational marketing and communications, and coordination of grant opportunities.

FLS is seeking a motivated, creative and experienced fundraiser. The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to social justice
  • At least four years experience in fundraising and marketing/comms
  • Proven success in a similar role
  • High level relationship management and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
