ABOUT THE FOOD CO-OPERATIVE

We are a not-for-profit member-owned organisation that knows good food. We are crazy about local, organic, sustainable, ethical, bulk and affordable produce.

Members own the Co-op, share the benefits of it and have the opportunity to work in it. The Co-op is managed with consensus-based decision making and all members are invited to participate. The Co-op employs four part time Co-managers. Members behave as working members (volunteers) and/or staff within the store, and perform the other tasks required to keep the Co-op operating. ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Basis: Part-time, on-going
  • Hours: 15 hours per week
  • Remuneration: $27.32 per hour
  • Minimum 12-month commitment

About the role:

  • A varied role, handling administrative tasks, volunteer management, and day-to-day operations of the shop
  • Tasks can include:
    • dealing with maintenance issues,
    • handling inquiries from members, volunteers, and general public
    • managing finances
    • addressing IT and internet issues
    • taking care of tenancy and insurance matters
    • helping develop policy/procedure documents
    • maintaining good work health safety & risk management procedures
    • attend monthly board meetings and be a part of the bigger picture decision making of the organisation.
    • taking on HR responsibilities alongside the Working Members Manager
  • Flexible working arrangement: potential to split time between the office and working remotely.

Selection criteria: What we’re looking for in an applicant

  • Willingness to pitch it however they can help: some days you could be developing policies and other days you may be showing someone how to use our dishwasher!
  • Someone who shares the Co-op’s values around sustainability and fostering community.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively within a diverse team - good communication skills are a MUST for this role.
  • An ability to prioritise your workload and adapt well to a dynamic and demanding work environment.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly with experience using Excel and Google Drive.
  • Experience with similar community organisations or Not For Profits.
  • Experience in a similar role, involving administration and/or office management.
  • An understanding of and commitment to workplace health and safety and equal employment opportunity.
