Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.

The primary focus of this work is on providing clinical services for the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients and clients and people with a mental illness who have offended or are at risk of offending. We are committed to providing Recovery-orientated forensic mental health services in which the principles of hope, social inclusion, personalised care and genuine collaboration are fundamental to practice.

These services are delivered through three streams: inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison-based services at several locations. About the role:

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) provides sound leadership in nursing staff development, education and practice development. The CNEs coordinate undergraduate and graduate nursing programs across the service and undertake projects related to clinical nursing.

The Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU) endeavours to promote best possible contemporary quality nursing care of consumers requiring specialist forensic mental health care. The NPDU supports a culture of high-quality nursing practice and development, uses evidence-based approaches to care, promotes evaluation and research, as well as supports the development of clinical governance and accountability of nurses. The NPDU has responsibility for the coordination, evaluation and ongoing development of the nursing graduate program, the provision of quality undergraduate nursing placements and other nursing programs including the Forensic Education for Registered Nurses training program.

About you:

A qualified mental health nurse who has a keen interest in nursing education and nursing practice development. You will have extensive knowledge of current mental health nursing practice and an ability to provide training and educational programs.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
