Graphic Designer (voluntary)

For Wild Places

We’re after an extraordinary individual who wants to use their design superpowers for good. The crew at FWP are inspiring trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts to become sports activists, and take a stand in protecting the wild places we love to explore. We are looking for a volunteer to join our small and talented team, to make us look good through establishing brand guidelines, graphics packages, engaging content and updating our mediocre website.

We’re not fussy if you’re self taught or have a piece of paper - as long as you know your way around Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, don’t mind the odd Zoom meeting and are willing to get your head around Basecamp, you’ll be sweet.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a talented and creative Graphic Designer to join our team, who is keen to inject personality and creativity into their work. Communicating to our audience in a relatable and engaging way is essential to conveying our message, and we are currently lacking consistency in this area.

The ideal candidate would be experienced in using Adobe Creative Suite (namely Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign) and be familiar with online platforms such as Canva. Whether you have formal training or are self taught, we want someone who is able to take initiative to turn our existing jumbled graphics into clear, dynamic Guidelines and campaigns which amplify the work that FWP does.

You will deal directly with Hilary, the Operations Manager, who will provide briefs for specific outcomes, such as Brand Guidelines, graphic packages for FWP events, content for social media and presentations for grants, partnerships and fundraising.

An ideal application would...

  • Live anywhere in Australia (but could be overseas)
  • Loves the outdoors and is wanting to help tackle the climate crisis (or if the outdoors isn't your thing, but you'd like to use your skills to help us achieve our mission)
  • Is excited by the positive impact that outdoor businesses can have
  • Is motivated and can work independently - we will provide support, guidance and direction
  • Is able to offer at least 6 hours a week regularly (work hours are flexible to suit your schedule)
  • Has strong communication skills and is happy to work online and use software such as GDrive, Canva, social media and email. Access to Adobe Creative Suite is also essential.

About For Wild Places (FWP)

For Wild Places is a non-for-profit organisation, founded by a small and driven group of trail runners. It is our aim to empower passionate outdoor enthusiasts to embrace sports activism as a way to celebrate and protect wild places.

Our purpose is to create a world where wild places are collectively cherished and protected, using sports activism as the vehicle for linking human happiness and environmental well-being. We do this by:

PROTECTING

  • We support campaigns to defend trails in wild places under threat and inspire our community to take action.

ACTIVATING

  • We engage, empower and activate our communities in the ongoing effective protection of our trails.

CELEBRATING

  • We create unique events and opportunities for our communities to experience and celebrate the trails and wild places we set out to protect.

Our work.

As a movement for the outdoor sports community, we service the needs of these people now and into the future. We do this through the following methods:

ENGAGEMENT + EDUCATION

  • We know our community’s passion for outdoor activity. FWP creates relatable and interesting opportunities for action by hosting and participating in core, sport-specific events.
  • When opportunities arise for community engagement, FWP is then able to activate a knowledgeable and empowered network. An educated audience is an active audience. FWP takes care to educate the outdoor audience on impacts to our environments that are relevant to their communities.

COLLABORATIONS + CAMPAIGNS:

  • By working in powerful collaboration with the outdoor communities, businesses/ philanthropists and environmental campaigns we are leading the fight to protect wild places.
  • Together, we build tools, create engaging touchpoints and arm our communities to take action on behalf of our wild places.

about the team

We currently have 8 passionate people working on our volunteer team. We all live in different locations across Australia, and at this stage, all of our work is remote. Volunteering with us means having an impact from the comfort of your own time. To complete with our work, we communicate regularly through Basecamp and have our team meetings on Google Meet and Zoom. Our team is friendly, inclusive and fun. Our group is growing quickly as we have a range of opportunities available which will help continue to grow FWP and the sports activism movement. We value the contribution of our volunteers immensely, and encourage all volunteers to be engaged in various aspects of FWP and become ambassadors for the work we do. This includes participating in in-person events when possible, and being an advocate for FWP and our events.
