About the role

The nurse practitioner is expected to provide high quality clinical services to Family Planning NSW clients and work effectively in a team environment. They will maintain high clinical standards and professional nursing practices across the organisation in accordance with Family Planning NSW policies, procedures and clinical guidelines. The role requires a high level of clinical reproductive and sexual health knowledge, skills and experience, excellent communication skills and sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

The nurse practitioner provides advanced level reproductive and sexual health nursing care comprising of advanced clinical assessments, planning appropriate management of reproductive and sexual healthcare including diagnostic and screening investigations, initiation of therapeutic interventions including prescribing medications and referrals. The position is part of a multidisciplinary team. This role may provide the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience in research, and professional education.

About you

Essential:

1. Primary nursing degree or equivalent with current AHPRA registration as a registered nurse
2. Post graduate Masters degree leading to endorsement as a nurse practitioner in NSW and eligibility to apply for prescriber and Medicare provider numbers
3. Post graduate qualification in reproductive and sexual health nursing (RSH CAP or equivalent) and clinical experience in reproductive and sexual health nursing
4. Current unrestricted NSW Driver’s License and ability to travel throughout NSW

Desirable:

• Skills in LARC insertion (implant and/or IUD) or willingness to be trained in same
• Experience in primary healthcare nursing or counselling
• Experience in quality improvement and clinical safety initiatives such as clinical audits an policy and procedure development
• Experience in the development or delivery of nursing education programs and knowledge of adult learning principles
• Experience in clinical research
• Sound computer skills, including MS Office and electronic medical record applications

• Maintain the required professional qualifications and competence to practice within the defined scope of practice
• Ensure that personal clinical and nursing service provision adheres to statutory and professional obligations
• Commit to maintaining best practice by adhering to the scope of practice and within clinical role boundaries defined by FPNSW (guided by Contraception: An Australian Clinical Practice Handbook and Reproductive & Sexual Health: An Australian Clinical Practice Handbook)
• Commit to clinical skill development and take personal responsibility to update knowledge, enhance skill and maintain professional accreditation and competency standards to perform within the context of practice

Must have or willing to undertake:
