We have an exciting opportunity for an Organiser to build worker power in industry superannuation funds.

The FSU is a member driven organisation that represents workers in the finance industry. We organise workers across Australia’s bank, insurance, credit union and superannuation employers. Our members fight for and deliver improved working conditions in an evolving industry.

Operating nationally, the FSU has established a strong reputation for successfully representing the interests of its members in an environment of constant change. Our working environment is engaging with a constant agenda of interesting issues. The Union has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the National Management Committee, Organiser – Industry Superannuation will be an experienced and innovative organiser who builds power by organising and campaigning to win. This is a specialised role working with our leaders across Industry Super to build strong Union communities to deliver the leading pay and conditions. A knowledge of, and passion for industry superannuation is essential.

Your background might be in a trade union, industry superannuation, a community organisation or NGO, or something completely different! Whatever your background, if you are passionate about building worker power in industry super, we would love to hear from you.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to organise with working people including growing our Union, building member activism and developing workplace leaders;
  • The ability to assess workplaces, then develop and implement organising plans to meet our objectives;
  • Skills in developing and executing campaigns to build power in workplaces and across the sector;
  • High level stakeholder management with an ability to build relationships across industry superannuation;
  • A well-developed understanding of, and commitment to, worker capital and industry superannuation;
  • A broad understanding of industrial processes like enterprise bargaining, assisting members with individual issues, and resolving health and safety concerns;
  • A commitment to social justice and trade unionism.

This is a role where we occasionally need to work outside business hours, and where some travel may be required. A driver’s licence is helpful but not essential. There is a requirement to be able to obtain a Right of Entry Permit.

Salary

Available on request, and commensurate with experience. FSU offers excellent working conditions including scheduled RDOs and employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
