Galiwin'ku Women's Space Inc. (GWS) is a Yolngu run organisation established by a passionate group of women from Galiwin'ku working towards a solution to domestic and family violence in Galiwin'ku Community, North East Arnhem Land. The organisation operates with a Two Worlds Approach by combining the skills and knowledge both societies, Yolngu and non-Indigenous.
GWS 's vision is to stop the cycle of violence in Galiwin'ku through the provision of crisis management and prevention services, including Crisis Accommodation, that strengthen culture and empower families. GWS is the only organisation focusing on domestic and family violence in the community and are pioneers in developing a unique service model for addressing this community need.
GWS is looking for an experienced Coordinator to join the team at a crucial time in our organisation’s development.
In consultation with the Business Manager, the Programs and Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Galiwin’ku Women’s Space’s case management, community-based services, and programs, including the crisis accommodation service, to ensure they function in an ethical, effective, and efficient manner. The Programs and Services Coordinator is responsible for managing a small team of full time, part time, casual and volunteer support workers and project coordinators including rostering for the out of hours components of the service.
Currently, GWS is delivering a locally developed case management and outreach service for women and families experiencing domestic and family violence. We are also developing a unique Gurrutu Framework that grounds all our operations and service provision in the Yolngu Kinship system.
In January 2022, all our programs will relocate into a new purpose-built facility in Galiwin’ku that will enable the services to grow and an additional crisis accommodation component to be added. This is the first time the Galiwin'ku Community has had access to specialised domestic and family violence and crisis accommodation services.
This role will require a skilled communicator and relationship builder with experience in DFV service delivery, formal qualifications in counselling or social work, and an understanding of Yolngu culture and remote living.
