Coral reefs are unique and irreplaceable ecosystems. These living organisms are home to thousands of species of marine life and support nearly a billion people around the globe.  

For over 20 years, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation has been the lead charity for the Great Barrier Reef and, more recently, a number of coral reefs globally. Our goal is to drive the immediate change needed for coral reefs to survive for future generations. Right now, we have over 100 Reef-saving projects with over 65 project delivery partners. We are the action station for coral reefs, bringing together people and science to deliver the world’s largest coral reef program. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Pioneered by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, the Resilient Reefs Initiative (RRI) is a global partnership bringing together local communities, Reef managers, and resilience experts to develop new solutions for adapting to the effects of climate change and local threats.RRI partners with communities and Reef management organisations across five World Heritage reef sites and provides a wide range of resources, connections, and technical expertise, all focused on building concrete, long-term solutions.

The Program Manager Resilient Reefs will deliver a range of services crucial to RRI’s success; the successful candidate will work with the RRI team to develop and deliver all network programming and support the creation of key knowledge products to share lessons and innovations from the Initiative. This includes the design and curation of Solution Exchanges, trainings, annual convenings (in person or online); managing network partner relationships and liaising with other GBRF programs to connect the right resources to site partners; and supporting the development of knowledge pieces that communicate the Initiative’s work and impact.

The role is suited to a highly organised person who thrives when working collaboratively across sectors, countries and stakeholders and is experienced in complex project / program delivery and administration. The role requires a solid understanding of coral reefs, socio-ecological resilience building and philanthropy.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated capability, creativity and passion for network programming and network building

  • Sound understanding of marine science and marine conservation, and awareness of key global players

  • Experience working in or with international organisations

  • Highly tuned organisational skills and time management skills

  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communications skills including the ability to synthesise multiple lines of information as well as share project activities and outcomes in accessible formats suitable for the target audience.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with partners and stakeholders to support information exchange and the collaborative design and delivery of projects. In particular, experience designing and delivering engaging online content and convenings for diverse global audiences.

  • A keen interest and enthusiasm in science, the environment and coral reefs

  • Ability to travel on occasion to support project activities.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in complex project delivery and administration

  • Ability to speak French is desirable but not essential

reporting

The Program Manager Resilient Reefs reports to the Program Director and works closely with both the Associate Director and the Program Director.

Job LocATION

The job location is negotiable. GBRF offices are located in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville as well as several satellite offices.

Work Type

The role will cease in April 2024 and flexible work arrangements are available.

The salary range is $80-$90K pro rata plus super.
